Fire Chief Selected for Goshen and Pleasant Hill Fire Districts


The Goshen Fire Board, with strong support from the Pleasant Hill Fire Board is pleased to announce the selection of Andrew Smith as Fire Chief for the Goshen and Pleasant Hill Fire Districts.

“We are honored to have Smith join the District as our Fire Chief, said Goshen Board President Willie Bronson, “He is well qualified, and brings with him strong knowledge of our district culture and the energy and enthusiasm to lead our departments forward.”

Smith currently serves as the of Division Chief of Operations and Training for Goshen-Pleasant Hill Fire Districts, and has held several increasingly responsible positions during his 13 years of service including Firefighter, Lieutenant, and Captain. He holds certifications as Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II and EMT-I. He has attended the National Fire Academy, and has earned certifications in Advanced Incident Command and is a part-time instructor at Lane Community College.

The official announcement ends a period of interim Fire Chiefs who have led the Districts since 2015. Steve Abel will maintain position as interim chief until Smith formally takes the helm Fall, 2017.

“We are confident that he will be a good fit with our management team, the Fire Districts and our communities, said current Interim Chief Abel.

“I am honored to be selected to lead our districts, said the new chief, “I look forward to ensuring both communities are provided with outstanding fire and emergency medical services. This is an exciting time for our districts and I am committed to building on the work the Boards and volunteers have begun toward “One Team” as united communities”

Smith, a homesteader within the Pleasant Hill community, resides in district with his wife Kathy and are expecting a boy in June of 2017.
